The People

Glasgow-based five-piece The People were formed in the early 2000s.

They are:
GB Piercy – vocals, acoustic guitar
Simon Graham – bass guitar, harmonies
Craig Moyes – lead guitar, harmonies
Ruaraidh Macleod – drums
Jackson Scott – piano/keyboards

They are influenced by americana, psychedelia and folk but incorporate and interpret these traditional genres to create a sound that’s new and difficult to classify.

They released their third studio album, stoRR, in 2017. Building on their previous work with aching country odes and sailors’ laments, it also showcased more expansive and eclectic arrangements and instrumentation to accompany songwriter GB Piercy’s compositions.

Having played a number of very well received live shows since the launch of the album, including support slots with the likes of California’s GospelbeacH, the Travelling Band from Manchester and the Strange Blue Dreams, they headed back into the recording studio early this year. The result of this, the Hopeman/Ships EP, sees the band meld their influences and strengths – melancholy, searching lyrics, keening harmonies, intricate guitar lines and slowly building rhythms – into an open-hearted and ultimately uplifting whole. It is due for release in early summer 2018.
